Nap at the Opera is a weekly newsletter about art, for the rest of us — art lovers, not experts.
Those of us who will enjoy going to the opera once in a while, but might also be caught falling asleep during the third act. It happens to the best of us.
Brussels is a city of politics — but it’s also one of Europe’s contemporary art hubs, a booming city full of culture, from Schuman to Arts Loi and beyond.
As these two posters in the city’s airport show, Brussels has two sides.
This newsletter aims to bring those two sides together: exploring both the culture world out there, and the cultural projects and programs taking shape within the EU’s institutions themselves.
As a culture journalist, I spend my days getting excited about various topics, then proceeding to research, visit and overall deepen my knowledge. I am not an artist myself, I am a fascinated outside observer wanting to share the experience with you.
I will keep it short and fun, a 5-minute read adding a dose of culture to your inbox.
No prior knowledge will be needed, we’ll keep things clear. If I had a penny for every time an artwork has been described as “deceptively simple,” I would have enough money to straightforwardly set it on fire.
I’m as excited about this launch as these sculptures by Belgian artist Patricia Broothaerts which I fell in love with at the Affordable Art Fair earlier this year. (The fair’s next edition is coming up in February 2024; we’ll chat about it more closer to the date).
Thank you for subscribing to Nap at the Opera — or … NATO, for short. I should trademark that.
